Description: For your consideration: Selling a working Alesis Adat digital recorder (photos 1-to-4) Prior to posting, while sitting inactive for sometime and rarely used, it has given a thorough reconditioning, belt checked, deoxit etc and all functions work as expected. However, after putting everything back together, the display light no longer lit up and dark. It's like working blind albeit still works. Great for straight archiving old tapes or recording. On that note, the unit is being sold in "AS IS" described condition. Also up-for-grabs: 1. For your consideration: For sale is an absolutely unmatched, esoteric texture of warm analog sound that the ubiquitous ones and zeros could never deliver...a completely serviced Tascam 244 four-track recorder/mixer. (photos 5-to-13, $850) Up until recently the specimen featured here was given endless hours of considerable amount of refurbishing session. Including but not limited to, replaced all tact switches new and now respond every commands smooth like butter, installed new capstan and control belts, detailed clean, hand buffed, replenished and deoxit some pertinent components and mechanical parts including knobs, dials and switches. That's the good part! Now the bad news: Like any of life's unexpected mishaps, during re-assembly, I accidentally yanked the wires off the erase-head beyond repair and no longer work. I'm currently in search of a donor part. The replacement procedure is very straight forward and rather simple task. Just plug and 2 screws to secure it in place. Recording is still possible if virgin blank cassette is used. Therefore, this 244 is ideal for playback only if you're objective is to transfer your existing old recordings. On that note, I am selling as described and "AS-IS" condition and be prepared to explore and tackle the necessary challenge of figuring out proper implementation to bring this formidable machine to manufacturer's specs and operational order. This is as pure analog as it can get! 2. The persistence of Analog! Selling a refurbished and fully functional highly desirable Tascam 244 four track multitrack recorder and mixer equipped with the DBX most effective, ever-so-essential noise reduction ever built for analog. (photos 14-to-21, $1099) Such a plethora of I/Os to accommodate any demanding configuration with an added convenience of individual send/receive for each of the four track channels for solo external processing or direct out loop link. It's all you need for capturing that missing body of warmth sound character unattainable by the ubiquitous ones and zeros counterpart. One of my personal project. Fitted with new belts including capstan motor, tape transport & pinch roller rubber tires are freshly installed as well, head-block demagnetized. Countless hours spent given a 20-point tune up by opening the machine layer-by-layer, board-by-board. Buffed and detailed clean every crevice every line to free from dusts. Furthermore, lubrication and deoxit all knobs & controls, including many pertinent connections, majority of electronics and moving parts where necessarily important to ensure proper contact, static free and smooth operation with even some retouching involved in the process. It is worth having this indispensable 244 machine around in any audio or video environment to add substantial life to any cold mastering that perhaps only a pleasing saturation of a tape can ever deliver. I have done literally endless projects with the 244 back in the day and I can't endorse it enough for its reliability and unsurpassed sound. Am luvin' the analog even more so today in the culture domain of compressed, non-linear virtual recordings. Anecdotally, IMHO, any tape based format recordings, digital (DAT) or analog will deliver a far sonic superiority. It even stands its ground in digital transfers. Albeit, our affinity to Analog is simply.."still" we are all "Analog People" after all living in an evolving tech world of..."digital" domain! As a desk top mixer, the 244 four-channel input alone is an amazing value enough to justify its staple purpose in any home based or pro studio alike..don't missed out on this opportunity to own it! All buttons work as expected. I'm an audio engineer, dj, a/v tech, an electronic hobbyist and perhaps a purveyor of all things analog. I have refurbished, repaired, modified and worked on many vintage gears and some of the newer ones as well for my personal hi-fi and pro collection. Time is irrelevant when I would sometimes spend up to 80 hours literally just for a single project alone..and don't get paid by the hour either..it's what I do and comes with the territory. The kind of work I do will reflect the quality end result of each particular item..so buy with confidence even just for the time and labor invested in this amazing machine is surely worth it. Bench tested and passed with flying colors and ready to put in service once again. The 244 is no longer in production and becoming a hard commodity and very sought after due to it's high quality result of any studio or live recording project and ease of use that is still relevant in digital culture of today! So grab it while it lasts! Like most vintages some superficial imperfections are almost expected and trace of wisdom is apparent but in no way impede normal functionality and will be hard pressed to find another in this state of condition. Additionally, two volume "green caps" fell off and presumed missing (can be easily replaced). Shipping may vary on location. Post Script:Ideal for serious incurable collector or purveyor of all things analog, unique and in short supply with intent to build a showroom, I would consider to sell to the eligible buyer, a once in a life time find some of the rarest extremely sought after cornucopia of Vintage, Hi-Fi, DJ, A/V and Pro gears in a single Collection anywhere. Exceeding decades of tracking-down and literally thousands of man-hours invested in refurbishing, restoring, repairing these amazing electronic wonders to accumulate such magnificent concentration of historical analog importance you've ever seen! Some are new, used and few are part of my on going passion in what I do. Nonetheless, all has given equal meticulous attention and care to arrive in the integrity they once were and will be hard pressed not to admire aesthetically. I baby all my gears more than anyone I know :-)) and pictures don't do justice but reflect what you see. There simply is too much to itemize at once as I continue to build up the extensive inventory-list and pertinent details of what's included in the sale.
