Description: Al Capone - The Hawk - Prohibition My grandfather wrote this 137 page book. As the youngest U.S. Deputy Marshal at the time in Chicago. He was given the nickname "The Hawk," by fellow officers in his department as he never failed to complete his assignment. Sounds kind of corny - someone being called "The Hawk" - but we have his "Black scrap book" with newspaper clippings that refer to him frequently as "The Hawk." He was frequently asked by friends to write the book. Finally, in his late 80's, he dictated his memories of those bygone days into a cassette. His words, figure of speech, etc., were transcribed into this 1989 book. So his English, phrasing of words, etc., is written just the way he spoke. The book is comprised of short stories on Dillinger, Yellow Kid Weil, Lawrence "Dago Lawrence" Mangano, and his recap of meeting Al Capone. What I find of interest is when he speaks of addresses in the book you can google-earth the address and see the exact place he mentions. My grandfather sets the record straight on many of these hoodlums by telling it the way it actually happened - unlike what he calls the Hollywood renditions. At the time that he dictated the book I video-taped him basically telling me the same stories as in the finished book. When he turned 98 years old I again video-taped him telling his stories. The stories, the dates, the addresses all were exactly as the previous recorded tape as well as what is written in the book. Perhaps, someday, I'll offer those tapes on DVD. His memory was as sharp as a tack. He always said he would live to be 100 and one day. He lived to be 100 and 1 month! He was a World War I Navy Veteran. From what I understand, he was the last Veteran to be buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery, formerly named "Sawtelle." The hard cover book comes with a dust jacket. At the time he wrote the book he didn't realize that he needed a literary agent to get the book published into stores. So we, the family, ended up with about 4,000 printed books from Vantage Press. Thus, as his grandson, I have listed the brand new books for sale in my Ebay store so his true story can be known per his wish. Enjoy1
