The book was first published in the UK by the Collins Crime Club on November 2, 1936. The book features the recurring characters of Hercule Poirot, Colonel Race, Superintendent Battle and the bumbling crime writer Ariadne Oliver, making her first appearance in a Poirot novel (she previously had a role in the Parker Pyne short story The Case of the Discontented Soldier). The book is in VERY GOOD+ vintage condition - square spine (maybe a slight touch of lean), firm hinges and joints. Colorful, unfaded, clean boards. Light rubbing to spine tips, sharp corners. Foxing to edges, endpapers and first few and last few pages. Pencil writing and partially erased writing of former bookseller on FFEP. The unclipped original dust jacket is in VG- condition. Beautiful, colorful cover art with a little rubbing. Minimal edge wear - creases chips and some tears. Several closed tears on rear panel. Dust soiling to white portion of front panel and rear panel.
