Description: This is a late 19th century Thomas Elsmore & Son large oval platter, transfer pattern unknown, measuring approximately 17 1/8” x 12 5/8” executed in crisp brown transfer and highlighted with light yellow, green, rose, blue and coral. The platter features an oriental vase, various flowers, bamboo, a fan sporting moths and an interesting faceted ribbon element resembling joined blocks of oriental pictographs. A continuous geometric pattern surrounds the outside edge and is highlighted in yellow ochre. This particular pottery is sometimes referred to as “Parisian Granite,” a term which is also used to classify a broader range of pottery of this type. The impressed letters “PG” can be seen on the back of the platter. No discernible chips or cracks and very light crazing. Excellent condition for age. Domestic Priority Mail shipping is $30.00.
