Description: Vintage ORIGINAL Vari-Vue Pinback for Adlai Ewing Stevenson II ILLINOIS GOVERNOR DEMOCRAT. Some very slight scratching and paint chipping to rim and back side of pinback. Some slight soiling to Vari-Vue face. Please see scans. Measures 2 1/2" in diameter. Stevenson, Adlai Ewing II (1900-1965) — also known as Adlai E. Stevenson — of Libertyville, Lake County, Ill. Born in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Calif., February 5, 1900. Democrat. Lawyer; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Illinois, 1948 (member, Credentials Committee), 1952, 1956, 1960; Governor of Illinois, 1949-53; candidate for President of the United States, 1952, 1956; candidate for Democratic nomination for President, 1960; U.S. Representative to United Nations, 1961-65, died in office 1965. Unitarian. Member, Council on Foreign Relations. Stricken with a heart attack, and died soon after, in St. George's Hospital, London, England, July 14, 1965 (age 65 years, 159 days).
