It contains 59 original fine engravings by Alexandre Bida, the celebrated French painter of the Romantic period, and other of the most renowned artists of the time, such as Henriette Browne, Bodmer, racquemond, Chaplin, Deblois, Flameng, L. Gaucherel, Gilbert, Ed. Girardet, Haussoullier, Ed. Hédouin, Massard, Mouilleron, Célestin Nanteuil, and Veyrassat). This imposing edition was designed Bida, along with Gustave Dore was one of the foremost illustrators of the Bible in the 19th century. Book size: 22" x 15" ; image sizes: 9.5" x 6.5" Condition notes: fair; the cover and spine are badly worn in places, and the hinge is loose and secured with tape, but the engravings themselves are complete, intact, and protected by the publisher’s original tissue-guards, with no damage save sporadic foxing.
