Description: Absolutely Rare 1970's PLATINUM Pocket Pen w/ Striped Steel Cap & Barrel 14K Nib, Japan From 1963, the Japanese fountain pen manufacturers, namely Sailor, Pilot and Platinum, had all worked on the production of a miniature fountain pen that could be clipped to the shorter shirt pocket of the Japanese man. These pocket pens were relatively shorter than the usual fountain pens when capped but became a full-length pen when posted. Most of them came in with 14k gold nibs but Sailor started to bring in 21K nibs from 1969. These nibs were mostly Fine and number 2 or small nibs, but they wrote as good as any of today's larger gold nibs. While Platinum introduced the first pocket pen in 1964, it upgraded those pens to a higher level with metal, striped, or engrave-patterned body and cap or even 18K nibs in the early 1970's.The item for sale here belongs to this category as the nib carries the new Platinum ("P") logo introduced only after the 1960's.
