Description: For the pendant of this hemp necklace, I carved three mushrooms into a slice of hand-finished, cruelty free, elk antler. For the caps I inlaid half of a 40 x 30 mm. abalone shell cabochon, half of a 18 x 13 mm. abalone shell cabochon, and half of a 14 x 10 mm. abalone shell cabochon. For the stems, I filled the carving with a mixture of metallic, acrylic paint and glue. This is reminiscent of a common hunter-gatherers’ practice of making paint by mixing hide glue and ground pigments i.e.ocher, charcoal or clay. Deer and elk shed (or drop) their antlers annually, so this antler came from a still-living animal. For the neckpiece, I did macrame with double strands of hemp twine, using: green agate ovals; faceted Amazonite rounds; aventurine, blue quartzite and bone rounds; and brass donuts and rondelles on strong, durable, artificial sinew. The length is adjustable; starting at 39 cm. (15 1/2"), up to 91.5 cm. (35 1/4").Just slip it over your head, and slide the lock knot to desired length. If you would like it shorter, you can specify the length desired at time of purchase (no less than 60 cm. or 24" so it will still fit over your head), and I can easily shorten it.
