Description: A Visit to Mr. John D. Rockefeller by Neighbors & Friends at Forest Hill. Signed by John D. Rockefeller Limited first edition Cleveland, OH: Vinson and Korner Co., 1905. First edition. Signed by John D. Rockefeller beneath his frontispiece; Copy number 255 of a limited 425, for Mr. R. C. Norton of the Baker Motor Vehicle Company of Cleveland. This work commemorates the day John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil, was visited by 300 Cleveland businessmen outside his home, and includes the speeches which were delivered that day, including ones given by Liberty E. Holden and Andrew Squire, and Rockefeller's speech in response. An exceedingly fine copy of a book normally prone to wear, in the publisher's gilt-stamped boards with polished brown leather spine. Very slight abrasions to the spine ends, occasional offsetting to contents. Housed in its original mailing box, with small splits at two joints but still sound, and with the hand-addressed printed label from the publisher, with the matching limitation number. Additionally laid-in printed note from the compilers of the book, which reads, in part: "Mr. Rockefeller knew nothing about [this book project] until he was asked to assist in selecting and to personally sign a photograph which we could use. This he reluctantly consented to after earnest solicitation [...]." Also present is the original tissue paper used to protect the book in the box. An exceptional example, uncommon in such nice condition and retained extra material.
