Description: This superb and large antique Patent Tantalus is a true gem for collectors , made with beautiful detail to the galleried case it was retailed by F.F.Paxman The Jewellers Tewkesbury . The solid oak frame was made with fine attention to detail including quality silver plated fittings and a wonderful spring loaded mechanism that drops backwards when opened and the original lock and key ,it exudes British Country House quality that is sure to impress. It measures approximately just over 14 1/2” wide , just over 6” deep and stands 12” tall . Condition is excellent with a wonderful colour and patina, very well made and extremely heavy for it’s size. The deeply hand cut and blown hobnail glass decanters are original and in superb condition with just some very tiny nibbles to edges as you’d expect at this age- see pictures. Most similar examples of this age have brass fittings and a simple opening system, making this rare example one of the finer quality pieces available at the time. All in all a wonderful tantalus in every way , it would make a wonderful gift idea for the discerning gentleman. Please remember this is now well over one hundred and twenty years old and so will have many tiny marks and scratches etc and the decanters may need sterilising before use - see pictures.
