Description: First edition, rebound, inscribed by author "To Mr. Herman Shwarz with compliments of Otto Widmann." Widmann (1841-1933) was an American ornithologist, born in Germany, who was among the first to document the birds of the Missouri region. He is considered Missouri's pre-eminent birder and one of the most noted amateur ornithologists in the United States. This is considered a rare book although the rebinding has reduced its value to collectors. An excellent potential reference or library copy. Good condition. First edition rebound with an autobiography of Widmann, published by The Wilson Bulletin, September 1927. New binding is embossed black leatherette cloth and shows only minor wear. Text is clean with one notation and two small marks in pencil. A very usable volume, if not in original condition.
