Description: A Pickle for a Nickel is a 30-page book written by Lilian Moore and illustrated by Susan Perl, published by Golden Press, originally in 1961. This is the 1969 printing. It is in Very Good condition with bright, clean pages and a solid spine and boards. There is some tape residue on the side of the front cover, and the letter F marked on the inside front cover. The back cover has some type of oil stain in the left corner (see photos). The story is about Mr. Bumble, who likes everything to be quiet and is content with his parrot that doesn't talk. However, when William moves into the neighborhood, things change for Mr. Bumble. Lilian Moore (pen name, Sara Asheron; March 17, 1909–July 20, 2004), was a writer of children's books, teacher and poet. She founded and edited for Scholastic's Arrow Book Club, a low-cost mail-order paperback service for children. She also helped found the Council on Interracial Books for Children. In 1960, Moore won The New York Times Best Books of the Year selection. In 1985, she won the National Council of Teachers of English Award for excellence in poetry for children. Moore also was awarded the Child Study Association Children's Books of the Year five times.
