Description: A pair of Japanese antique hand painted porcelain plates made in 19C Offered here is a lot of two Japanese hand painted porcelain plates made in late 19th century. The plates reflect an unique craftsmanship with it's Japanese plate design enameled in a rich Chinese porcelain painted style. The polychrome enamel is especially saturated on the courtesans and stylized trees depicted, and stand in glossy relief from the texturally matte background. This is done intentionally as a subtle visual contrast, but also as a means to emphasize the difference that can be seen in hand painting on the natural grain of the porcelain in counterpoint to the painted style done with a gloss-heavy enamel glaze. The colors are remarkably vibrant for its age and have been carefully well-maintained. The plates are in excellent condition. There is some minor enamel loss in some small areas and edging patterns seen in the photos. They are hard to make out in the dense coloration; please expand photos to assess. On the backsides of each plate are craft markings, both signed in Japanese by different individual artists, with one marked with a hand-stamped seal as well.Each Measurement: Diameter: ~ 8 1/2"(22cm) The item offered is guaranteed authentic and as described.
