A Bad Night after Goya, Mala Noche La Caprichos 36. Print of Aquatint

Description: A print after famous Spanish artist Francisco Goya (1746-1828). Originally an aquatint etching from his series 'Los Caprichos' which consisted of 80 scenes, often satirical, in which Goya commented on the society in which he lived. This is a lithographic reprint of 'Mala Noche' (Bad Night) which depicts two women out at night and caught in a high wind which lifts their dresses. The dress of the woman in the foreground has blown right over her head revealing her legs and because they are much lighter than the surrounding darkness the eye is drawn to them. It is suggested that the women are prostitutes and the bad weather might mean it will be a bad night for them in more than one way. The is number 36 of the series of 80. The print is also marked lX in the lower left margin beside a monogram mark of a curling S. I do not the origin of this print. It is in excellent condition, float mounted to a cream coloured backing card and presented in a black and gilt frame which is in excellent condition. Glazed and ready to hang. Measures 31 x 24cm including the frame, the image only is approximately 21 x 15cm (inc title area). Postage £4 to mainland UK, £12 to mainland Europe and £24 to the USA.
