Description: 1996 Classic Plus with some of the best woods out of Gibson. The maple top has wide flames that move in the light and it's never been drilled for a pickguard. The one piece mahogany back has some interesting figuring that looks like 'kisses' and the neck has a bit of flame. It's a resonant and easy-playing guitar with barely any fret wear. Includes a brand new Gibson hardshell case which is what comes with today's Classics. Weighs in at about 8.5 lbs.. incredible weight for a non-chambered Paul. The neck 496r measures at 8.3k and the bridge 500t is 14.9k. One of the drawbacks of 90s Gibsons is they used 300k volume pots which can darken the tone. I took a couple 500k audio pots from my 95 Classic and made a wiring harness along with the stock 500k tone pots. I also used Mojotone 'Vitamin T' oil-filled .022 capacitors, wired 50s style in order to better retain highs when rolling the volume down. The original 300k linear volume pots and ceramic-disk capacitors worked great and are included with the grounding plate. The neck is a very comfortable but somewhat slim C shape that measures .82 in at the first fret and .89 in at the 12th. The frets are polished shiny. They're tall and divot-free but I did see a thin, shallow line into the 5th fret between the D and G, unnoticeable when playing. The back of the neck has no wear and the headstock is very clean as well but has some clear coat wear at the top treble-side corner. The nut is original but has wear that doesn't effect function. It shouldn't need replacing except for cosmetic reasons and the nut slots are proper height even with the low action and minimal relief set-up. The guitar is polished clean and glossy head to toe but there is some honest play wear including some shallow worming and a couple dings at the backside leg rest edge. I included pics of the most significant wear after the case pics, using glare to highlight the worst clear coat impressions. The finish isn't checked but it has the classic 'nitro sink' of older Gibsons where on close inspection wavy vertical lines can be seen on the top. The knobs have some typical cracking at the center but these don't go all the way through the ferrule. This is a great sounding and playing guitar.. a sure candidate to be someones #1.
