Description: Homebrew QRP 80/40/30 meter ham radio transmitter/regen receiver. As with any equipment of its type, there's lethal voltage inside the chassis, so please do not purchase this item if you are not aware of the potential hazards of use. It must be handled with experience and respect. The no load dc operating voltage is over 300 volts DC. You will need two battery power sources for this item. A 12 volt car, motor cycle, golf cart or wheelchair battery, or well filtered bench top power supply, will work fine for the filaments and power inverter circuit. Two 9 volt rechargeable transistor radio batteries are required for the receiver. No batteries or other power sources are provided with this listing. I do not ship batteries. The circuit uses a 6P1P (aka 6V6, 6AQ5, etc) for the transmitter and a 6U8A dual section tube for the regenerative receiver. The latter is a takeoff on the nostalgic Neophyte receiver of the 1950's. The 6P1P circuit is similar to the AC-1 Ameco transmitter of the same era. In lieu of wound coils, which could also be used, I have employed the color ring RF inductors for both the transmitter Pi-network and the regenerative receiver tuning circuits. Power output from the transmitter is about 3.5 to 4.0 watts on 80 meters. About 2.25 to 2.5 watts on 40 and about 1.25 to 1.5 watts on the 30 meter band. Three QRP crystals (one for each band) and three plug-in inductors are included, along with a Piezo headset, like the one you see pictured. The headphone output impedance is high, in the ballpark of 2 to 4k ohms. QRP crystals can have a hint of chirp when pressed close to their operating limit, but typically I've been able to tune the tank circuit for a decent sounding cw tone. The full power FT-243 type crystals will sound better if you happen to have some of those on hand. Operating controls are PA and antenna tuning for the transmitter, plus main tuning, fine tuning and regen action. On/off switch on the regen pot, plus a send/receive switch on the upper left front panel. A hand-sketched schematic will be included with this item. You may purchase a schematic only, showing all parts values, on another listing. I guarantee this radio will work if hooked up properly to a respectable antenna system.
