8-10” Israeli Yellow Dragon Fruit Plant Cutting- Israel Golden ISIS Gold Variety

Description: You will receive one (1) unrooted cutting from our Israeli Yellow Dragon Fruit Plants growing in sunny Florida. The cutting will measure appox 8-10" in length. Home grown using organic methods with lots of love and zero chemicals or pesticides. This Israeli Yellow pitaya, or Yellow Dragon fruit variety, was developed over a span of several decades by botanists at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, in Beer-Sheva, Israel. This Israeli Yellow pitaya is a clone of the red fruited Hylocereus undatus and has characteristics more akin to the red-skinned pitaya. Due to the nature of clones, this Yellow pitaya will not grow true from seed. Propagating the yellow fruit-bearing cactus clones must be done through cuttings. The fruit does not have spikey thorns like other yellow varieties do. This variety requires cross-pollination to set fruit. Flowering and fruiting occurs from mid-summer through fall. Dragon fruit is a unique vining cactus plant that does well in subtropical climates. This Israeli Yellow dragon fruit variety is slightly more tolerant of heat and sun exposure than the pink/red flesh varieties but is less cold hardy. It is best suited for zones 9b-11. The stems are nice green color with small thorns. It grows pretty fast and the flowers are stunning night bloomers. The flowers need to be cross-pollinated with pollen from the flower of another dragon fruit variety for fruit to set. The fruit is a beautiful yellow color with some green on the fin tips and its flesh is white with a nice sweet mild flavor. The fruit sizes range from .5 to 1 pound on average. Planting in a spot with some afternoon shade is preferable to prevent sunburn. You can grow it in a container or in the ground and will need a support with posts or a surface for it to adhere to and climb on. Keep watered regularly without allowing soil to dry out. To plant the cutting:I’ve marked on your cutting with an arrow pointing down to signify which end to put into the soil. You can plant it directly into the ground or into a pot with pre-moistened potting mix. Plant the cutting 5-6” deep. Keep watered regularly without allowing soil to dry out. It will take a few weeks to a month to root. Then new growth buds will appear from the sides and/or top. I recommend a good sturdy post/trellis for it to grow up. (There are many options from tomato cages, to 4x4 posts, or a custom built trellis- give it a Google :-)) Taste and PreparationDragon fruit has a mild flavor, is refreshing and not overly sweet. I love to eat them fresh. You could also enjoy them in smoothies. It is a highly nutritious, high in fiber and antioxidants and is a good source of vitamin C and iron.
