Description: 737d. This is a unique wing! Unique in the sense that it is by a very rare maker-J/O which stands for Josiah Odence-whose shop, I believe, was in Chicago. This is a US Naval aviator’s wing with an applied EGA to the shield designating this to be a USMC Aviator’s wing. The wing is marked Sterling and 1/20, 10 karat. This is a traditional World War II and later US naval wing style/pattern with 13 berries in the shoulders. While these USMC designated wings were never official, they were upon occasion certainly worn; and, this one exhibits the characteristic where both pin attachments have been soldered rather than electronically welded. Also the pin retraction is in the 70 to 80° range. The attachment of the EGA to the front of the shield is unique in that it was obviously performed by an experienced jeweler as witnessed by the gold ball on the reverse of the wing. Over the years I’ve had several of these USMC aviators wings, all of which simply had the EGA soldered to the face of the shield. This particular wing apparently had a stickpin which was then pushed through the hole which had been drilled through the shield and onto which the gold ball was soldered or applied – however it does not unscrew! This wing weighs 14 gm and is a superlative example of a legitimate USMC Aviators wing by an exceedingly rare maker who made very few wing varieties or wings per se. This maker is highly sought after and prized. Please consider viewing my other listings and adding me to your "favorites" list as I will be listing many more interesting and unusual items in the future-particularly wings & badges.
