Description: 6-Piece MICHIGAN UNION University of Michigan Restaurant Ware Mug/Cup Plates Block "M" Ash Tray Here's a wonderful, and rare vintage place setting from the Michigan Union (maybe from the University Club where faculty ate or the Michigan Union Grill or "M.U.G" the student hangout) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. As a student and an employee I used to borrow my boss's membership card to the University Club and enjoyed many delicious and not-too-expensive meals there in the 1970's. I did not steal these dishes and left the UM in 2022 honorably with a BA, an MA, and 50 years as an employee--GO BLUE! Included are 5 pieces by Walker China. The pattern includes embossed scalloping on the edges that is stencilled in green followed by a narrow gold band. All are in fabulous shape with no chips, no cracks, hardly any wear and extremely glossy still. All are marked on the bottom "Walker China, Made Exclusively for 'Michigan Union', Furnished by Reichle Sons, Co., Detroit, Mich." with a production date number following. Included are: 3" tall coffee mug/cup, production date 9-40; dessert bowl, production date 8-44; 5.5" plate, production date 1-45; 6.5" plate, production date 8-44; 8.75" plate, production date 8-48. Also included is a brass colored metal ash tray with the block "M" in the center. Sentimental Wolverines will enjoy displaying this set in their home "cafeteria". Carefully packaged, the shipping weight is 5 lbs. I can ship it via USPS Ground Advantage or USPS Priority Mail--buyer's choice of shipping method.
