The Hoggson Brother brass plaque indicates the company that purchased and used the piece of furniture. Please look at pictures to judge condition. In the early 1920s, William J. Hoggson was the driving force behind getting funding for the Lincoln Memorial. Hoggson Brothers was founded in 1889 by two natives of New Haven, Conn. -- William J. and Noble F. Hoggson. Bank buildings were their specialty. But they also designed hotels. They built the Hotel Commonwealth in New York City in the teens, and in the 1920s, they constructed several buildings in St. Augustine, Fla. Specializing in designing & building construction in New York City & Nationwide. They originated the form of contract work under which they assumed responsibility of an entire operation, including the architectural design, building construction & equipment, & interiors. William F. Hoggson was a man of many interests. He was the founder of the Putnam Trust Co. of Greenwich, Conn., and an active participant in many cultural and civic projects.
