Description: This is a 1974 Ireland Five Pence that was formed into a ring it was then put on a copper inner ring. The copper was expanded to hold the coin tight against it, the interior of the ring is coated with a lead free silver bearing solder that keeps your finger from turning green when worn for extended periods of time. The animal chosen for the shilling/5 pence is a bull. The cow and the breeding of cattle was (and is) very important to Irish agriculture. The design for the five pence was taken directly from the previous shilling. The shilling continued to circulate until the five pence was reduced in size and the larger coins and the remaining old shillings were withdrawn together in 1992. It turned out to be a size 7.5 when it was finished. It was hand polished with a cloth. If you are looking for that unique 7th wedding anniversary gift this is made with some copper.
