Description: 14 kt solid yellow gold pendant setting and Coin. Totals 3.5 grams in weight. Reverse Bezel - Coin is adjustable in the setting (spins). The pendant is also reverseable. Coin is a Chinese 5 Yuan piece featuring what appears to be a unicorn wearing a wreath on one side and a nobleman riding a horse with a dragons head on the other. The nobleman is carrying what appears to be a horn in his left hand and a floral bouquet in his right hand. Inscriptions are in Chinese, excepting the word "unicorn" and the year: 1994. The features of the coin are essentially flawless and printed in gorgeous detail. Symbolism: The qilin, or Chinese unicorn, is a legendary, one-horned chimera that is said to appear when a benevolent ruler or sage scholar is born or dies. The coin was made to represent peace and prosperity. I was unable to find more information on the nobleman, I assume he is the newborn ruler who is to bring the peace and prosperity. The entire piece is about the size of a U.S. penny.
