Description: Welcome to The Textile Trunk ~ please follow us on Instagram, we are @textiletrunk I wish so much I had photographed this textile before hand washing it! It was , quite frankly : filthy! I soaked it overnight and hand washed with many rinses of water, and it is STUNNING ~ it's a French textile using 2 panels of purple velvet ( purple velvet in history was reserved only for the king! ) The purple is a red toned The trim around the outside is wool ~ it's a hand stitched textile ~ there is SO much soul in this piece. It was most likely used as a small side tablecloth ~ ~ It's backing is in very poor condition ( please see photographs) but it's a lovely silk fabric, so I've left it on in case there was a plan for restoration ~Velvet is tricky to date, but I would say early to mid 19th century ~ Earlier ? The sheen on the velvet is just wonderful ~ a very romantic find. Ideal for draping as a decorative textile or use ~*~ MEASUREMENTS This textile measures approximately 49 inches by 39 inches Condition : I've hand washed this piece and it's ready to live again! ~ The condition of the backing is poor , and the wool trim has wear. The velvet has wear, little spots of voided velvet and some small holes ~ it's beautiful , but it's not without signs of time and use ~*~ The two panels have a slightly different tone. They were probably taken from something else and used to make this tablecloth ~I love EVERYTHING about this wonderful antique textiles ~ Etsy shelf : B 2410
