NOTE; I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANOTHER COMMEMORATIVE PLATE LIKE THIS ONE. I TRULY BELIEVE, GIVEN ITS SCARCITY, THAT THIS PLATE WAS PRODUCED IN VERY LIMITED NUMBERS WHICH MAKE IT A HIGHLY DESIRABLE PIECE FOR COLLECTORS.For your consideration is this stunningly beautiful commemorative ceramic wall plate honoring the U.S. Army Airmen who served aboard the iconic B-24 Liberator in the skies over the European theater of war for the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 467th Bombardment Group (Heavy) 8th during WWII between September 1943 and June 1945. The commemorative plate comes with the wire plate hanger as depicted in description photos #17 and #18.I received this plate from my uncle’s estate who served in the 467th back in the day. He had this plate hanging in his home office for years before it was passed on to me. Unfortunately, there are no hallmarks on the plate so I am unable to definitively determine how old the plate is and/or who produced it. That being said, given the plate commemorates the military service of those from over 80 years ago, I have to assume it is not a contemporary piece and must be at least 50 years old as I am certain there are not many of those veterans with us today. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I copied a brief history of the 467th and am including it below for your further review and consideration. "The 467th Bombardment Group is an inactive United States Army Air Force (USAAF) unit. Its last assignment was to the Strategic Air Command, being stationed at Clovis Army Airfield, New Mexico. It was deactivated on August 4, 1946. During World War II, the group was an Eighth Air Force B-24 Liberator unit in England assigned to RAF Rackheath. The group set unsurpassed record for bombing accuracy on April 15, 1945, holding the record for bombing accuracy in the Eighth Air Force. They destroyed a German battery and Pointe de Grave, on the west coast of France and scored a 100 per cent strike. The group commander, Colonel Albert J. Shower, was the only group commander to stay with the same group from beginning to the end of the war. The Group returned to the United States in July 1945, converted to B-29 Superfortress, and trained for deployment to the Pacific Theater. Deployment to Okinawa cancelled with the end of the Pacific War in August 1945. After training completed, the Group was assigned to Clovis AAF, New Mexico and was one of the original ten USAAF bombardment groups assigned to Strategic Air Command on March 21, 1946. The group was deactivated on August 4, 1946 due to the Air Force's policy of retaining only low-numbered groups on active duty after the war; and its B-29 aircraft, personnel and equipment being reassigned to the senior 301st Bombardment Group at Smoky Hill Army Airfield, Kansas”. The plate is multi-colored and made out of ceramic weighing approximately 1.0 pound, 4.0 ounces by itself. The plates measures approximately 8.50” in diameter and when laid flat on the table stands approximately 1.0” tall. Refer to description photos #19, #20 and #21 to confirm the weight and size dimensions and for more details about what I have described. The plate is in excellent condition having no chips, cracks, scratches and/or repairs. The ceramic surface of the plate is smooth and all the colors remain vibrant and glossy. The colorful imagery and graphics are crisp and detailed and the words are easily legible. The ceramic has no crazing and is in excellent condition. This is a fine piece of WWII memorabilia that any collector would admire and appreciate owning. Refer to all the description photos to confirm the overall condition of the collectible commemorative plate and for more details about what I have described. The plate prominently features the iconic image of the fierce B-24 Liberator front and center on the plate with the name “467th BOMB. GROUP (H)” immediately below it. The plane is positioned directly atop a map that outlines all the different countries within the European theater of war. Encircling the noted images are the words “AIR OFFENSIVE EUROPE”, “NORMANDY’, “ARDENNES-ALSACE”, - “CENTRAL EROUPE”, “NORTHERN FRANCE” and “RHINELAND” which I assume makes reference to all the different mission assignments the Group was assigned back in the day. Refer to all the description photos for more details about what I have described. The back of the plate is covered with a detailed record of the WWII service history of the 467th Bombardment Group. Refer to description photos #12, #13, #14, #15 and #16 to read what the history is and for more details about what I have described. Overall, this is an absolutely beautiful commemorative plate that pays tribute and honors all those brave veterans who served in the 467th and who fought valiantly during WWII.
