Description: Original and Rare 45 Star US Flag that was flown during the Spanish American War and during the Presidency of William McKinley who was assassinated on September 14, 1901. The 45-Star flag flew 12 - years from January 4, 1896 with the admission of Utah to the Union to July 3, 1908, when another star was added with the admission of Oklahoma in 1907. Because of the change in adding a new star when a state is addmitted to the Union. The 46-star flag did not become official until July 4, 1908. I do not have any particular history of this flag. I purchased this flag from an antique store mostly to keep it preserved. This flag is not a perfect flag and has wear and tear from age (128 years old). This flag is made of cotton muslin gauze material. I have done my best to document all the issues with the flag in my photos. There may be some that I missed. Please look at the pictures carefully before bidding. Over the last 10-years that this flag has been in my possession, It has been kept in a smoke-free environment and folded up in a cool dark moisture free plastic container. I have taken it out to display to school children 3-times and I wore white gloves and kept anyone from touching the flag. To give you an idea of the size (72" X 108" or 6' x 9') I laid it out on four 30" X 8' tables to take the pictures. In the past there have been some attempts to repair the flag and I have shown that in the photos. It would be nice for someone to have this flag professionally restored and I think this will make a great display in a museum or veteran building
