42nd Infantry Division Ripple Weave White Back Patch WWII Original Europe

Description: The Patch: This Auction is for 1 WWII Vintage 42nd Infantry Division Shoulder patch with a ripple weave and a white back. This patch has been used and is in good condition. It has a very nice white backing. This patch does not glow under the UV light and is guaranteed to be authentic. The History: The 42nd was activated on July 14, 1943. They trained 15000 replacements before embarking for the European Theater. They arrived in Marseilles France on December 8, 1944. The 232nd was at Command Post 2 near Marseilles. They were organized as Task Force Linden with the mission of providing reinforcements where needed. The division entered combat near Strasbourg on Christmas Eve, 1944 after relieving the 36th Infantry Division. They fought off heavy counter attacks to a front that was weakened by the movement of the Third Army into the Bulge. The division was sent to a defensive sector near Hagenau in theHardt Mountains to recover from this combat. In March the 42nd went on the offensive attacking through the Hardt Mountains and broke through the Siegfried Line. They captured Dahn and Busenburg in April and prepared for a crossing of the Rhine. They captured Wertheim and Wurzburg and then took Schweinfurt in hand to hand fighting. They continued advancing and liberated Dachau on April 29, 1945 and liberated 30,000 prisoners. After this, the 42nd made a push toward Munich. The 42nd Entered Austria on May 5th and captured several high ranking German Officers. They spent a year on Occupation duty before being de activated..Please read my auction requirements. I have changed them based upon feedback and ratings received.
