These plants stay green and happy during spring, summer and fall. In Virginia, in October the leaves turn yellow, and they fall on the ground. The plant will be dormant in December-February, maybe March. If you buy these plants in November-January, you will receive their rhisomes (roots). The rhisomes will produce new leaves around March. If you buy these plants during summer (hot weather) - I will remove leaves and ship nice large roots; soon after planting these roots will produce new leaves. Some people use these remarkable plants as aquatic plants - in fish tanks. I did not try this, but I kept several violet plants under water and they did great. Very strange... Wikipedia: Wild violet or Viola sororia has historically been used for food and for medicine. The flowers and leaves are edible, and some sources suggest the roots can also be eaten. The Cherokee used it to treat colds and headaches. Rafinesque, in his Medical Flora, a Manual of the Medical Botany of the United States of North America (1828 – 1830), wrote of Viola sororia being used by his American contemporaries for coughs, sore throats, and constipation.The leaves are high in vitamins A and C and can be eaten raw. The flowers have been made into jelly and candy. As you can see from the photos, the height of my plants may reach 12-14". This is probably unusual and surely good.
