Description: Condition Description Continued: Endpapers are marred by library items, attempted removals, and tape residue marks. Also "Best Book" is written in red ink on the front pastedown. Text block edge has some soil. Library items on the title page (see photo). Page wear, some soil (pictures show the worst), and quite a few creased page corners. Unmarked except for the library items. A BEAR CALLED PADDINGTON - 1968 - "Mr. and Mrs. Brown first met Paddington--a most endearing bear from Darkest Peru--on a railway platform in London. A sign hanging around his neck said, 'Please look after this bear. Thank you.' So that is just what they did" (back cover). PADDINGTON AT LARGE - 1970 - "... excellent fun for the family" (Chicago Tribune on the back cover). PADDINGTON AT WORK - 1981 - "Paddington evokes not mere smiles, but squeals of laughter from his audience" (The National Observer on the back cover). PADDINGTON ABROAD - 1972 First Edition - "Who would expect that a bear, even a special sort of bear like Paddington, would win a prize in a most professional bicycle race like the Tour de France? One minute dear old Paddington had been sitting quietly along the road on his self-repaired tricycle checking the marmalade sandwiches in his bike basket, when before he knew it he was caught up in a whirlpool of speeding bicycles, shouting spectators, and ringing bicycle bells...." (dust jacket flap). In all the books, Peggy Fortnum's simple illustrations bring out the humorous personality of this lovable bear.
