Description: CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL STADIUMCleveland Indians (MLB) (1932–1933, 1937–1993) Cleveland Browns (AAFC/NFL) (1946–1995) Cleveland Rams (AFL/NFL) (1936–1937, 1939–1941) Cleveland Municipal Stadium, often simply called "The Municipal" or "The Mistake by the Lake," was a historic multi-purpose stadium located on the shores of Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio. Opened in 1931, it was one of the first large stadiums built in the United States specifically to host both baseball and football games. With a massive seating capacity that could accommodate over 78,000 for football and approximately 74,000 for baseball, it was one of the largest stadiums of its kind during its time.Cleveland Municipal Stadium was home to several major sports teams over the years. It served as the primary venue for the Cleveland Indians, the city's Major League Baseball team, from its opening in 1932 until 1993, before the team moved to Progressive Field (then known as Jacobs Field). It was the site of several notable baseball events, including the 1935 Major League Baseball All-Star Game and the 1948 World Series, where the Indians clinched their second championship. The stadium was also the home of the Cleveland Browns, the city's National Football League (NFL) team, from 1946 until its closure in 1995. It was where the Browns enjoyed much of their success during the early years, with legendary players like Jim Brown and Otto Graham leading the team to multiple championships. Despite its historical significance, Cleveland Municipal Stadium had a reputation for being cold and uncomfortable, due in part to its proximity to Lake Erie, which exposed it to harsh weather conditions. In addition to sports, Cleveland Municipal Stadium hosted a variety of other events, such as concerts, soccer matches, and religious gatherings. However, by the 1990s, the stadium had fallen into disrepair, and its outdated facilities led to calls for a new venue. The stadium was eventually demolished in 1996 to make way for FirstEnergy Stadium, a modern facility and the current home of the Cleveland Browns. Despite its demolition, Cleveland Municipal Stadium remains a significant part of Cleveland's sports history, remembered for its unique character and the many memorable events that took place there.Four 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" standard size linen era postcards. $1.50 flat rate shipping to USA, $2.50 Canada. All other countries see eBay's Global Shipping Program for rates.
