Here is a genuine fossil plate from Bonanza, Utah. Part of the Green River Formation, Utah. From the Eocene, about 50 million years ago. No paint or restoration have been applied. The Sycamore leaf measures about 3 inches across, and is nearly complete (photos). The primary and secondary veins are clearly visible, along with serrations along the edges. There are 3 other leaves on the front, the longest being 3.75 inches. There is actually a 5th leaf, on the other side of the plate. Measuring about 5.25" including stem, it did not fossilize as well as the other four leaves, but is still clearly there. Also on the back side are three small fossils, each resembles a tadpole, but I don't know what they actually are. The plate is a hard matrix, about 15.6" by 12" at the widest points (varies). Thickness varies from thin on one corner, to .5" and the thickest part is about .8" thick. The plate weighs about 6 lbs. 10 oz. An interesting plate at an affordable price! Price is firm.
