Description: These are four beautiful small shallow dishes decorated with a lovely shiny gold design on bright white porcelain. These are very elegant. The edges are softly scalloped but one of the dishes is a slightly different design, with wavy edges that come to a slight point instead. All are the same size and are decorated with the same shiny gold design. These were made by O&EG which stands for the company known as the Oscar and Edgar Gutherz Royal Austria Factory. This green backstamp was used starting in 1899 until 1918. They were located in Altrolau Bohemia, now in the Czech Republic. They had financial backing from the American importer L. Straus & Sons. In 1918 the Royal Austria Factory became part of OEPIAG, the Austrian porcelain industry and this backstamp was no longer used. An aside on some history. L Straus & Sons was started by Lasarus Straus with his sons Isidor and Nathan. In 1896 they bought Macy’s of New York. If you have seen the James Cameron movie, Titanic, there is a scene where a wife will not leave her husband behind, and so they both stay on the Titanic with the water rising and perish. The couple portrayed was Isidor and his wife Ida, who did indeed pass away on the tragic Titanic sinking in 1912. This set is in excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing. There is a bit of rub wear to the gold. These small shallow dishes are about 5 inches in diameter and are very light, and only weigh 3 ounces each. They hold 1/2 cup to the very top, or 1/3 cup to the top of the thick gold band above the floral design. These could have been use as berry bowls maybe or to hold a treat or small cookie while having tea, or they could be used as trinket dishes now, but they are really beautiful! Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree video for a closer look. I pack with lots of bubble wrap for safe shipping and ship out quickly sometimes same day, always by next business day and sometimes on Saturdays if I can get to the oost office before they close at noon Any questions, please ask and thanks for looking!!
