These are made of type 410 stainless steel with a black (phosphate?) coating. 410SS attracts a magnet about half-heartedly, and it is remarkably hard compared to other common stainless fasteners. The corrosion resistance is much better than ordinary carbon steel, but not as good as 18-8.
