Description: This Listing is for One New Unfolded Booklet of 20 Quilts of Gee's Bend 39¢ Stamps from 2006.Mint. MNH. No flaws. From a Smoke-free and Pet-free Environment. These self-adhesive 39¢ Quilts of Gee's Bend stamps - the 6th in the American Treasures series - were issued by the U.S. Postal Service on August 24, 2006 in Des Plaines, IL. The stamps were designed by Derry Noyes of Washington, DC, and feature two each - of ten different quilts made in Gee's Bend, AL between circa 1940 and 2001 by African American women quilters. Photographs of the quilts are by Steve Pitkin of Rockford, IL. Created for the practical purpose of keeping warm, the quilts of Gee's Bend are noted for their unexpected color combinations, bold patterns, and improvised designs. The variety of materials with which they are made - old dresses and worn-out work clothes, for instance - also demonstrates great ingenuity. (From left to right, top row then bottom row, on the first photo of this listing), the 10 quilts selected for this stamp booklet include:1) "Housetop" variation by Mary Lee Bendolph (1935- )2) "Pig in a Pen" medallion by Minnie Sue Coleman (1926-2012)3) "Nine Patch" by Ruth P.
