You are bidding on 20 COLUMNAR SUGAR MAPLE SEEDS - Acer saccharum 'Columnare'.This is primarily valued in the landscape for its rigidly columnar form. It has dark green deciduous foliage. The lobed leaves turn outstanding shades of orange and red in the fall.It is a dense deciduous tree with a narrowly upright and columnar growth habit. Its average texture blends into the landscape.It requires full sunlight to flourish. Small greenish-yellow flowers emerge in spring, followed by samaras that ripen in fall. Dark green foliage turns a vibrant gold in fall. Plant Height - Mature: 40 ft. Plant Width - Mature: 12 ft Hardiness: USDA Zones 4 to 8Sun / Light Exposure: full sun Medicinal use : A tea made from the inner bark is a blood tonic, diuretic and expectorant. It has been used in the treatment of coughs, diarrhea etc. A compound infusion of the bark has been used as drops in treating blindness. The sap has been used for treating sore eyes. The inner bark has been used as an expectorant and cough remedy. Maple syrup is used in cough syrups and is also said to be a liver tonic and kidney cleanser.Edible parts : The sap contains quite a large proportion of sugar. This can be used as a refreshing drink, or be concentrated into a syrup by boiling off the water. The syrup is used as a sweetener on many foods.Other uses : The leaves are packed around apples, root crops etc to help preserve them.
