If sized CORRECTLY, these socks will apply 30 mmHg pressure around the ankles and gradually decrease until the applied pressure is 20 mmHg just above the meatiest part of the calf. If done just right the pressure pattern counteracts the effects of gravity in a standing position. Considerable medical research has gone into defining the precise pressure distribution to counteract blood pooling in a standing position. The additional challenge is to actually manufacture socks to produce this precise pressure range. These socks are manufactured on state of the art programmable circular knitting machines. Each sock is tested on a pressure test leg to verify that the desired pressure schedule has been achieved. This may explain why compression socks can cost upwards of $35 a pair. Compression socks are not merely tight fitting socks. Socks that are tight fitting in the wrong places may actually work against a patient and may actually be dangerous. The material is Lycra microfiber resulting in thinner, lighter weight socks suitable for all day wear. The inherent wicking function works to keep the skin dryer resulting in less foot odor and fungal issues.
