2 VTG Alessi Tendentse Whisky~Water Glasses GINEVRA By Ettore Sottsass 1996

Description: A Rare Pair indeed! Here are two water/whisky glasses designed in 1996 by Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) for Alessi, Italy, but produced in Germany in the 2000s. The pattern is called GINEVRA. A complete set includes a cylindrical decanter plus a variety of matching barware with the designer’s signature “thick disc” treatment of the base. The style is very modern and evokes the feel of a high-tech chemistry set. Other glassware in this pattern have been photographed in collections with original marks and stickers reading: Alessi Tendentse/Made in Germany/Bleikristall (Lead Crystal)/24% PbO. These glasses do not retain the original sticker, however they are clearly marked Alessi Tendentse on each base. The Alessi group thought so much of this designer’s collection, they donated sets of it to the Brooklyn Museum as well as the Victoria & Albert Museum. It’s part of their Decorative Arts and Design Collection. The 2 glasses I offer here are used but in lovely shape. They measure 3 3/8” tall and 3” wide. They weigh 8 oz each. No chips. No cracks. No etching or haze. The bases are very glossy with minimal signs of use or shelf wear. The thin glass sides show occasional scuff marks commensurate with age and mild use, but you must hold the glasses up to a light source to see them. Hand wash only!!
