Description: Presented is a set of two interesting Early American coin silver teaspoons with the monogram MR from the late 18th century. The engraving is very well done and appealing. The monogramming has fine, feathered embellishments. The back of each spoon is stamped with the name, J. Shoemaker. These spoons were made by Joseph Shoemaker (b. 1764 - d. 1829) who worked in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These spoons were certainly made in the 1790s. The back of each bowl shows what I believe to be the very faded remnants of a bird. Birds were sometimes cast or stamped onto the back of spoons in America in the 1790s, especially in New York and Philadelphia. Each spoon is in excellent condition and guaranteed a minimum of coin silver. There is one very small dent to one of the spoons at the top where the monogram is. The spoons show no other dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Each spoon measures 6 inches long.Weight: 30.8 grams Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
