Description: TWO Very Colorful, Big, Framed ORIGINAL 1920s French Chemin de Fer (French State Railway) Advertising Posters for BRETAGNE and ANGERS This is a lot of TWO absolutely original framed French Chemin der Fer or French State Railroad advertising posters almost 100 years old, printed in the 1920s. We purchased both of them mounted and professionally framed as you see them about 35 years ago. EACH ¾ inch solid oak custom wood frame measures 1-¾ x 29-½ x 41-½ inches and including the fiber board-mounted original poster weighs 10-½ pounds. Both antique posters were mounted the same way on heavy vintage ¼ inch or so thick mounting board. The visible portion of each poster (inside the frame) is approximately 28 x 40 inches. The green and brown tinted CHEMIN DE FER DE PARIS A ORLEANS - ANGERS CIRCUITS AUTOMOBILES poster was painted by renowned French artist Constant Duval and dates to 1926. It features the half-timbered houses and a few quaint citizens of the city of Angers in western France along side the Maine river at the edge of the Loire Valley. It was printed almost 100 years ago by Lucien Serre of Paris. The colors of this poster are vibrant, and not faded. Our photo of the whole poster shows light reflection along the right edge between the words Orleans at the top and biles (in Automobiles) at the bottom of this poster. That reflection is NOT on the actual poster. The dark blue bordered CHEMIN DE FER DE L’ETAT - LA BRETAGNE PITTORESQUE poster is also by Constant Duval and shows the beautiful medieval Château de Vitré in Bretagne, south of Normandy. The poster was printed almost 100 years ago by Imprimeur Champenois on 66 Boulevard St. Michel in Paris, and is so marked. In light blue text in the upper right hand corner of the sky portion of the poster is information on where this French State Railway advertising poster should be displayed. This blue Bretagne poster has some very light, old water stains on it, visible in a few places in our pictures (you may see a curved one from the wheel on the horse cart curving down to above the letter A in BRETAGNE). Those light stains probably suggest that the poster was in use as a poster when it was originally acquired, mounted and framed. The stains are very old. The colors of this poster are vibrant, and not faded. Our photo of the whole poster shows light reflection along the right edge between the words L’ETAT at the top and CONSTANT DUVAL (artist’s name) near the bottom of the picture on this poster. That reflection is NOT on the actual poster. The surfaces of both posters were coated at some point with a brushed on clear layer of perfectly transparent material (probably a clear acrylic) that has protected them and prevented any fading of the colors for as long as we have owned them, and in no way distracts from the images. These two fine original framed antique French travel posters are in very nice condition as found 35 years ago, and ready to hang on the wall in your office, favorite vacation spot or in your home.
