Description: You know, I'm a bookseller... But, I'm learning way more than I ever thought I'd know about salt cellars! Here's a pair of British oval sterling silver salt cellars, each with two handles, four feet, and a cobalt blue glass bowl. They are each 2 1/8" long (3 3/8" if you include the handles), 1 1/2" wide, 1" tall (1 1/4" if you include the handles). Metric: 54mm x 38mm x 25mm (86mm x 38mm x 32mm if you include the handles). For some reason I can't even imagine, the weight of the silver salt (only; not including the bowl) of one is 18.9g; the other is 17.2g. The marks on the bottom of the silver, reading left to right, are: C & S - the maker's mark for Clark & SewellLion - British sterling silverThree Castles - Chester (assaying office)Script T - Date indicator. Made in 1919. Excellent condition (they were in a collection, not in daily use); the silver is tarnished. Both bowls are original, and fit nicely into the salts. Note: One of the bowls has a manufacturing defect (chip?) on the side. Collectors, please note: We are selling off an amazing, enormous private collection of salts that belonged to a relative of ours. These are nearly all in excellent to perfect condition, with many rarities. It will take awhile to get them all listed, as each of them is individually and accurately described, so please check back often. See photos. Non-smoking, pet-free home. Shipped via first-class or priority mail; choose which one you prefer at checkout. Please note that we will be happy to combine shipping on all orders of more than one item. (DV501) Happy collecting!
