Bound in real red leather with gold lettering and decoration. Hubbed spine and marbled endpapers. Originally published in cloth binding, this copy was rebound in the UK in full leather with five spine hubs and stamped with gold lettering and decorations. Contains all the points for a first state of the UK edition (which was published a week after the American edition, which apparently was not a hardback) - 'geneleman' for 'genelman' on page 59, line 22; 'had' for 'have' page 126, line 26; 'it compared' for 'if compared' page 258, line37 and 'godness me' for 'goodness me' on page 269, line 38. Condition: Binding - very good plus, slight wear and soiling of the leather, pages a little age darkened, top page edges either heavily soiled or they were colored by the publisher and then got a little worn, side and bottom page edges a little soiled and I think the rebinder speckled the page edges to improve their appearance.
