Description: The basics: A 19th Century figure of baby Jesus that has lived a life, for sure. Measures 9" tall by about 6.5" from hand to hand. Made of wood and plaster. You can see wood at the hands where he fingers broke off. Broken and reassembled decades before he came into my possession. FYI: I added the red ribbon when received him to make hanging him on the wall easier and, consequently, more dramatic. I've had him since about 2002 What I know: I used to collect church antiques: candelabras, altar pieces, pews, sign, sculptures, and figurines that were odd or unique in some way. Living in the Boston area was a prime spot for this during the major church scandal here that resulted in the closing of many churches. This is one of three remaining pieces I've kept since donating / selling much of my collection to private collectors. A friend's parent saw my collection in late 1999 or early 2000 and gifted this to me around 2002 knowing he'd have a great home, and he did. The piece belonged to a man from their family who attended either Newbury Seminary or Green Mountain Seminary in Vermont (I can't recall which one) and remained in their family. I remember they said it hung over his bed or was on a shelf over his bed. When he left the seminary for whatever reason, his belongings were given t the family. This was among them. They found him disturbing (the eyeless aspect, of course) and just kept him in a box in storage. Please note: 1. I believe he was made in Spain in the 19th century based on other pieces I've seen over the years, but use your best, professional judgement when accessing this piece in the photos. 2. The repairs are old.3. there is paint flaking and areas of paint lifting, please keep that in mind. 4. I would keep him, but I'll be leaving the country next year and I'm purging my things.5.
