This benjarong stem plate features four fantail fish swimming amongst seaweed around a central pink flower. Three of the fantail fish are orange in color, while the fourth one is gray. Each fish has scales and other details highlighted with gold. The side of the stem plate rises to a flat border rim that is decorated with a band of pink and red flowers with green leaves on a gold ground. The flared pedestal is decorated with a pink floral band with green scrolling on a gold ground color. On the underside of the plate are found three different sprigs of pink flowers with their respective green foliage. With the exception of three very small nicks / flakes at the pointed rim, this piece is in exceptional condition. The stem plate was acquired in 1975 while we were in Bangkok at an antique store called Monogram. A finer example may never be found! Definitely an unusual find for the antique benjarong collector! Please take the time to carefully examine all the photographs for more details. Contact seller if you have any questions or if you require additional photographs for inspection. Measurements: The stem plate stands approximately 1-1/2” in height. It measures approximately 4” in diameter across the rim and 2” in diameter at the base. The stem plate weighs approximately 4 ounces. All measurements are approximate, but close. Condition: We carefully examined this item. As mentioned in the description, this stem plate has three very small nicks / flakes at the pointed rim. There are some small areas of missing blue color on the ring around the central pink flower. This missing color appears to be skips of blue enamel. There are also some utensil marks noted from previous use. Other than that, NO Chips, Cracks, Scratches, Stains, Restorations or Repairs were noted. This is a rare antique and very hard to find item. Minor flaws should be excused as most antique pieces are not readily available. Please take the time to carefully examine all the photographs for more details.
