Description: Epic charcoal and pastel recreation of Edwin H. Landseers ‘The Challenge’. Signed E.A. Hockmeyer in pencil peer right. On a type of paper board. Formerly framed in a 19th century slat back frame. The margins have all manner of condition issues. The image itself though is in excellent condition. A but if dust snuck into the frame over the years but the glass protected it well. I did take it out of the frame so that slats would cause anymore acid damage the paper. The image depicts an English stag elk keeping his eyes on a challenging male who is swimming across a body of water towards him at night. Hochmeyer did a wonderful job capturing both the detail, and essence of this treasured work by Landseer. This roughly 14”x21” work of art will look excellent matted and framed. I hope it goes to someone who will conserve it for many years to come. Ships ASAP! Thanks
