Each coin is struck from 1oz of .999 fine silver. Over the years, several different varieties of Silver Eagles have been struck (Mint State, Proof, Burnished, Reverse Proof & Enhanced) but one thing that remained unchanged was the design. In 2021, for the first time in 35 years, the classic American Silver Eagle was updated with an enhanced obverse design and a brand new reverse design! Silver Eagle's featuring this new design are now referred to as Type 2 while Silver Eagle's with the original design are referred to as Type 1. The Type 1 Silver Eagle obverse features Adolph Weinman's classic Walking Liberty design along with the inscriptions "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year. The reverse, designed by the 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, depicts a heraldic eagle with a shield. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "1OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR" also encompass the reverse. This 1987 $1 Silver Eagle Type 1 has been certified MS70 by NGC!
