Description: Up for sale, a 1986 Fender Boxer Series Stratocaster model SF-451 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Built in Japan at the famed Fujigen factory during the golden era of Fender Japan production, the SF-451 is among the rarest Strats produced during the original Boxer series run in the mid 1980s. Perfectly tailored to the "Superstrat" crowd, it boasts an SSH pickup array, a 22 fret slab rosewood fingerboard with super jumbo fretwire and a 12" radius, and a genuine USA-made Kahler Fulcrum tremolo and corresponding locking nut. Acoustically, this guitar has a smooth, neutral quality with excellent treble cut, qualities that translate well through the pickups, and the guitar has plenty of articulation and snap on tap via Fender Japan's Hot Rod alnico magnet single coils in the neck and middle positions. The bridge position Dragster humbucker has a punchy roar, with a factory coil tap mini toggle for single coil spank. This guitar weighs 8lbs 1oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mikes Guitar Bar with low action, spot-on intonation, and 10-46 strings. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .885” at the 12th. The thick slab 22-fret rosewood fretboard has a 12“ radius, and the stock jumbo fretwire is practically perfect, with well-rounded crowns, only exhibiting light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the carbon fiber nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width just forward of the locking nut for the Kahler. The headstock face features microscopic "Made in Japan" text under the Stratocaster name along with the E-prefix serial number. The neck heel and pocket have matching SF-451 model stamps. All of the electronics work as they should, with the pickups wired to a five-way pickup selector switch, Master Volume and Tone knobs, and a two-way mini toggle coil tap which eliminates the screw coil of the humbucker in the down position. The pots date to January, 1986, and the body has a factory HHH route to accommodate a variety of pickup configurations if desired. Hardware includes the black Kahler Fulcrum tremolo, ideally suited to broad, dynamic dives, complete with black vibrato arm. Original plastics include the pair of F-capped knobs and three-ply black pickguard, which exhibits requisite scuffing along the treble side of the strum path. There's some yellowing in the clear coat of the gloss on the Snow White finish, most prominent on the back, and a subtle tan line from a removed sticker on top just below the Kahler. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to just a handful of minor dings on the body as a whole, largely concentrated on the back and lower bout body edge. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile has been buffed to a semi-gloss through play. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
