Description: Way back in the Hobby’s infancy it was not uncommon to have baseball cards used as premiums to entice you to buy a product, or use a certain type of service. Cards could be included when you bought gas, ordered ice cream, or even bought your favorite snack cakes at the supermarket. This is such a set. Back in 1983 Topps produced a set of 33 cards for the Drake’s Bakeries of Harlem New York, the makers of Drake’s Coffee Cakes, or the famous Yodels. This was the third consecutive year Topps made a set for Drake’s, and the first time they offered it boxed. Like the name of the set implies, only Big Hitters of the day were included. And this set is filled with Hall of Fame players: Reggie Jackson, Mike Schmidt, Carl Yastrzemski, Rod Carew, Cal Ripken Jr, and many more (including Hit King, Pete Rose)! Card photos look very similar to those used in Topps’ flagship set, but with different bordering. Card back contains the Drake’s logo in the upper left corner. If all sets are the same as the one I opened to illustrate the cards, the set does not come collated, but with only 33 cards you can fix that pretty quickly. Buyer gets a brand new unopened set.
