The canvas depicts the struggle of the underground garrison in the most difficult conditions: without ammunition, medicine, equipment, weapons, reinforcements, light, food and water. Despite this, the defenders fulfilled their military duty: they gave battle to the enemy, carried out bold operations, and inflicted significant losses on the enemy. The painting was created in 1964. In the "Adzhimushkay" cycle, Nikolai But published 150 canvases dedicated to this topic.
