Fred Travalena - What's an impressionist to do? The talk shows are all but one. Soaps have overrun game shows on daytime TV. Barbara Mandrell and her sisters have the only prime-time variety show, and it won't be back in the fall. Most big name nightclubs are shuttered. What can an impressionist do? The answer, according to Fred Travaena: work your tail-off. "I'm kind of a go-getter," says Travalena. "People say, 'You must have a terrific agent,' And I say, 'Yeah. This finger and that phone'" Travalena, the current attraction at the Fairmont Hotel's Blue Room, was talking about the state of his art in his hotel suite. Shortly before he had made his Blue Room debut the night before the hotel's air-conditioning had gone out, and the suppperclub was stifling when he strode on stage. But Travalena worked that crowd, sweating but succeeding in earning a standing ovation. "I almost passed out," he admitted, but I had to go for it.
