Description: 1979 John (Duke) Wayne - American - Act of Congress - U.S. Mint medallion. The obverse features portrait of actor John Wayne, born Marion Robert Morrison. The reverse face features a depiction of the actor riding a horse through Monument Valley, Arizona, in one of the many westerns for which Wayne became famous. Wayne starred in numerous Westerns, around 142 motion pictures, many directed by John Ford, including Stagecoach, Red River, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon,The Searchers. Wayne came to represent, for many Americans, our frontier heritage. In addition to to the creation of this medallion, Wayne was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter. This bronze medallion measures approx. 1.32" (33.5mm) diameter and is in excellent lustrous condition with tiny spots of oxidation discoloration on the reverse. I accept PayPal only.
