This is a vintage press photo. Bruno Ganz, as the Russian lieutenant, tries to tell Edith Clever, as the Marquise, that his intentions are honorable in Eric Rohmer's "The Marquise of O..." This is the first New Orleans showing of the German-language film, opening Thursday at the Gentilly Orleans. Rohmer's earlier films have included "Claire's Knee," "My Night at Maud's" and "Love in the Afternoon." "The Marquise" is based on a 10th century short story by Heinrich von Kleist, and Vincent Canby described the film as "witty, joyous and beautiful to look at."
